- I am a co-sponsor of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Act
of 2005, H.R. 737, which would support the development of programs to
research and produce non-hydropower renewable energy sources capable of
providing at least 20% of the energy the United States consumes by the year
2020. Importantly, this measure would also provide assistance to help small
businesses and start-up companies to develop renewable energy and energy
efficiency technologies. (This legislation awaits consideration by the
House Committee on Science.)
- I am a co-sponsor of the Community Environmental Equity Act, H.R.
1807, which would prohibit any company involved in the transportation,
handling, or disposal of hazardous substances from disproportionately
exposing any person or community to the substance on the ground of race,
color, national origin, or economic status. (This legislation awaits
consideration by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.)
- I am a co-sponsor of the Alaska Rainforest Conservation Act, H.R.
1155, which would place lands in the Chugach and Tongass National
Forests in the National Wilderness Preservation System, and I am a
co-sponsor of the Udall-Eisenhower Arctic Wilderness Act, H.R. 567,
which would preserve the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge as a wilderness area. Similarly, I am also a co-sponsor of the
Rockies Prosperity Act, H.R. 1204, which would place lands in Idaho,
Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming in the National Wilderness
Preservation System. (These measures await consideration by the House
Committee on Resources.)
- I am a co-sponsor of the National Park Centennial Act, H.R. 1124,
which would seek to eliminate the annual operating deficit and maintenance
backlog in the national park system by allowing federal taxpayers to
designate contributions to the National Park System. (This legislation
awaits consideration by the House Committees on Resources and Ways and
Means.)
